It is claimed that "Figgy Dowdy" owned the land where the spring is, where locals collected their water. Figgy got possessive and locked up the well so no one could get access. There was a rhyme linked to her:-
Figgy Dowdy had a well
On top of Carn Marth hill
She locked it up night and day
Lest people carry the water away!

There are also recordings of local girls christening their dolls (dolly dunking), on Good Fridays, claiming good health and warding off evil spirits.
