This road side picnic area southwest of Mentone hosts a pair of historical markers. One indicates that Oliver Loving was the first cattle trail driver from Texas. Loving, a rancher, had run many cattle drives before the Civil War, and supplied beef to the Confederate Army during the war. Afterwards, he and Charles Goodnight forged a new trail to supply U.S. Army Troops in New Mexico and Colorado.
