The southeast corner of Klinger Smith Park is devoted to war memorials and exhibits. The centerpiece is the large Wake island Memorial, dedicated to that often-forgotten campaign, fought until the garrison surrendered in late December 1941. A monument near the center of the memorial is dedicated to the Wake Island POWs.
