Qatar verbindt heden en verleden met een van de meest opvallende objecten op de Floriade Expo 2022 in Almere: een 3D-geprinte moderne versie van de Burj al-Hamam. Met 12,1 meter is het de hoogste zelfdragende 3D-geprinte constructie ter wereld. Dit unieke object heeft hiermee een welverdiende plaats in het Guinness World Records boek verdiend. De ‘duiventoren’ is ontworpen door Dar & the Expo Pavilion group en gedrukt door Saint-Gobain Weber Beamix in Eindhoven.

De 3D-geprinte Burj al-Hamam is een eerbetoon aan de traditioneel gebouwde duiventorens in Qatar en wordt gekenmerkt door hun bijzondere, architectonische vorm. Tijdens het trekseizoen biedt de toren onderdak aan meer dan duizend duiven. Tegelijkertijd zorgt het voor een ecologische manier van landbouw. Dankzij de slimme constructie kan de duivenpoep worden verzameld en gebruikt als meststof voor lokale boerderijen. Bezoekers van de Floriade kunnen ook de 3D-geprinte structuur en constructie van binnen en van dichtbij leren kennen. Aangezien veel wilde duiven inmiddels dankbaar gebruik maken van de toren, is de toegang natuurlijk geheel op eigen risico.

De Burj al-Hamam is gebouwd zonder stalen wapening of gestort beton. Met 12,1 meter is het de hoogste 3D-geprinte toren ter wereld. Dit wordt bevestigd door meting door een official van Guinness World Records. Om de ecologische voetafdruk verder te verkleinen, heeft Saint-Gobain Weber Beamix de energiebehoefte van het productieproces en de hoeveelheid materiaal aanzienlijk verminderd. Hierdoor werd er voor de torens tot 60 procent minder CO2 uitgestoten dan bij de traditionele manier van bouwen. De toren is er nu niet meer, naar Qatar gebracht?

The 3D-printed Burj al-Hamam pays tribute to the traditionally built pigeon towers in Qatar and is characterized by their special, architectural shape. During the migration season, the tower provides shelter for more than a thousand pigeons. At the same time, it provides an ecological way of farming. Thanks to the clever construction, the pigeon droppings can be collected and used as fertilizer for local farms. Visitors to the Floriade can also get to know the 3D printed structure and construction inside and up close. Since many wild pigeons now gratefully use the tower, access is of course entirely at your own risk.

The Burj al-Hamam was built without steel reinforcement or poured concrete. At 12.1 meters it is the highest 3D printed tower in the world. This is confirmed by measurement by an official of Guinness World Records. To further reduce the carbon footprint, Saint-Gobain Weber Beamix has significantly reduced the energy requirement of the production process and the amount of material. As a result, up to 60 percent less CO2 was emitted for the towers than with the traditional way of building. The tower is now missing, has it been braught to Qatar?
