"Towards the end of the 2nd World War there were German flak positions on the Prinzenkopf. In 1945, during an attack by the Americans, 18 soldiers were killed here and buried on the spot.
In 1955, this was taken as an opportunity to establish a cemetery of honor at this site. In 1955, 16 soldiers from the surrounding cemeteries were reburied here, and in 1961-1962 another 61 war dead killed in bombing raids.

The Heroes' Cemetery is beautifully situated, adapted to the nature, on the Prince's Head. Each grave is provided with a gray basalt gravestone, on which is written the name, date of birth and date of death of the deceased, if known. In the design of the cemetery care is taken not to disturb the uniform image. This uniformity makes clear that all fallen soldiers had the same fate.
The graves are located on two levels, which are connected by stairs. The original Heroes' Cemetery from 1955 on the lower level, the war dead added in 1962 on the upper level.

In a collective grave, which is provided with a large gravestone, lie 16 civilians who died in an air raid.Opposite the entrance, overlooking Pünderich, is a large basalt cross. A plaque next to the cross shows the inscription: "To the war dead of the Zell district". The heroes' cemetery is a reminder of the suffering of war and at the same time a reminder of peace."
