The Fort is open for tours seasonally, from May through October. The fee is $6.00 per person.
The Conestoga wagon is a heavy, covered wagon that was used exclusively during the late eighteenth century.
A Conestoga wagon was a freight wagon, having no provision for hauling people including the driver.
The wagon was capable of hauling 10,000 to 12,000 pounds. The floor design cuved upward to prevent the contents from tipping of shifting.
Normally six horses or two oxen were used to pull it.
The Fort's wagon is estimated to have been built in the late 1700's.
It is still in operating condition.
It is probably one of the best remaining examples of a Conestoga with all original parts and capable of being used today.
