[FR] La dynamiterie de Paulilles est une ancienne usine d'explosifs française située dans le sud des Pyrénées-Orientales à Paulilles, sur le territoire de la commune de Port-Vendres, qui a fonctionné de 1870 à 1984. Premier maillon français d'un trust économique de taille européenne, la dynamiterie de Paulilles a fonctionné de 1870 à 1991. Au plus fort de la production, elle employait 300 ouvriers et ouvrières qui fabriquaient 4 000 tonnes de dynamite par an.
Une partie de l'ancienne usine a été transformée en musée dans le cadre du plan de réhabilitation de la baie mené par le Conservatoire du littoral1. On peut y voir des témoignages et vidéos sur la vie de l'usine ainsi que des maquettes. Des visites guidées de la baie sont également proposées.
[EN] Sheltered by both the Béar and Ullestrell headlands, and protected by Port Vendres fort, the site was chosen for its unpopulated position, which would not endanger lives in case of explosion.
Equally important was its facility for building solid jetties for safe sea transport, and the fact that it was ‘as far away as possible from German borders’ where the Franco-Prussian War raged.
Today, the dilapidated buildings and grounds of the 80-acre site have been renovated, and a free industrial heritage museum explains the fascinating history of the site, set within landscaped gardens.
