Jackson Fire Fighter Memorial - Jackson, MI - Firefighter Memorials on Waymarking.com

The fire fighters memorial was placed here as an Eagle Scout service project built by Timothy Johnson. It honors the 16 firefighters who have died in the line of duty in Jackson County since 1914.

The monument is a marble slab listing the names of the fallen, an etching of a fire crew, and a prayer to those in service. The prayer reads:

A Fireman's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God, wherever flames may rage. Give me strength to save some life whatever be its age. Help me to embrace a child before it's too late, Or save an older person from a horro of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout, And quickly and effieiently, to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me, To guard my every neighbor and protect his property. And if according to my fate I am to lose my life, Please bless with your protecting hand, My children and my wife.
