Medieval alcove in the north aisle of St Giles' church, Northleigh.
The alcove would have once held a religious icon, i.e. a statue of a saint, maybe that of St Giles. Quite probably carved in local Beerstone, it has a substantial ledge, above which is a pointed cinquefoil arch and foliate decoration - an architectural form popular in the 12th to 16th century, and contemporary to the 14th to 15th century construction of this church.
