At the roadside into the village Kaldbaksbotnur there is a welcome/population sign. Here you can read that in 2019 there were 11 inhabitants. It may not be so many, there is also only a single farm, a few houses and a small fishing port.
Kaldbaksbotnur is located at the end of Kaldbak's fjord on Streymoy's east coast. The road to the neighboring village of Kaldsbak was completed in 1977, and the two places were connected to the rest of Streymoy in 1980. In 1992, the tunnel from Kaldbaksbotnur to Signabøur opened. The formerly so remote village is therefore now a place that you drive past on the road between the capital Thorshavn and the airport in the Faroe Islands.
