This pillar can be found at Markethill on the north-eastern edge of the town of Turriff in north-east Scotland. It stands on a low rise next to a water treatment plant 100 metres above sea-level just east of the Markethill Industrial Estate in the town. A household amenity recycling site lies to the west and a path adjacent to this offers access to the pillar. The pillar is in good condition and is covered in flaking white paint. The north facing flushbracket would be beneath the ground, but part of the ground has been dug out to reveal it. Views are limited to the countryside facing northwards.

STEEPNESS: Very little with the pillar sitting on a gentle rise.

TERRAIN: Long grass, but with trampled pathways heading towards the pillar.

ACCESSIBILITY: A path, signed as 'Stanley's Walk' begins on the corner of Markethill Road and Broomhill Road on the south side of the recycling compound and offers access to the ground where the pillar stands.

NAVIGATION: Despite being only a hundred yards or so from the road, the pillar is hard to spot until close up. From the beginning of the path, bear north-east after passing the end of the recycling site, up the rising ground where a path has been formed through the grass. The pillar stands on the north side of the tree-fringed water treatment works on the other side of a fence which has been trampled down for easier access to the pillar.

DANGER: None except for the final climb over the fence.
