A small sign providing background about everybody's old nemesis can be found in front of the poison ivy itself on the Lost Pines Trail at the Isle du Bois Unit of Ray Roberts Lake State Park, Pilot Point, TX.

The sign features a close-up of the plant -- in some areas, the leaves are more rounded and not serrated -- noting its bad reputation but also providing a few sound bytes as to its use by some of Mother Nature's forest denizens. There's a nice patch of this stuff right in front of you, so just be careful and wash your hands thoroughly with soap after contact. You're following a loop trail of about a half mile that will take you to the shores of the lake and to something historical -- just a few feet away, in fact -- that you'll have to discover yourself.

Avoid this one, too.
