"From Antiquity, a place of worship was located on the site of the current building since it was built on Roman foundations. In the 15th century, the activity of the brotherhood of the White Penitents of Saint-Bernardin was flourishing and they would have erected their chapel in 1513 according to Mr. Muterse or in 1581 according to Mr. Dhumez, local historians. Anyway, the side door rue Saint-Bernardin, in solid walnut, bears the date of March 20, 1581.

After burning down in the late 1970s, the chapel was restored from 2007 and reopened to the public in 2008.

Its pediment on rue Rostan is decorated with four bas-reliefs and pinnacles representing white penitents in hoods as well as a head of Lucifer above the door. The portal, made of walnut and fir, would have been offered by the Antibes population in thanks for the divine protection granted, Antibes having been spared by the plague raging in Provence in 1580.

The altar is adorned with four twisted columns in gilded wood in the Baroque style, decorated with acanthus leaves. Behind him is a cul de four with a steeple. The frescoes which adorn the bottom of the oven represent the table of the apostles of Jesus and date from the 16th century.

The altarpiece, which dates from the 17th century, probably comes from the Couvent des Cordonniers, located on Place de la Poste and destroyed in 1920.

The chapel presents the statues of three saints: Saint Jacques, Saint Sebastian and Saint Bernardin of Siena.

On the central ceiling, in trompe-l'oeil, are painted the four evangelists: Matthew, John, Mark and Luke as well as the Virgin Mary, Christ and Saint Bernardin in the middle. Two sentences are inscribed in Latin: Ecce Deus Salvator Meus (“Behold God my saviour”) and In me omnis spes vitæ et virtutis (“In me is all the hope of life and valor”).

The ceiling of the apses is starred ultramarine blue. A vaulted room is also accessible. A reproduction of the painting The Descent from the Cross by Antoine Aundi is exhibited there."

L'autel est orné de quatre colonnes torsadées en bois doré de style baroque, décoré de feuilles d'acanthe. Derrière lui se trouve un cul de four avec un clocher. Les fresques qui ornent le cul de four représentent la table des apôtres de Jésus et datent du XVIe siècle.

Le retable, qui date du XVIIe siècle, provient vraisemblablement du Couvent des Cordonniers, situé place de la Poste et détruit en 1920.
