The reverse of the monument says, "In 2003, the citizen of Newport Beach adopted the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. The city dedicates this memorial in honor of the men and women of 1/1 who paid the ultimate price in defending and preserving our nation and our freedom."
