De beeldengroep “Vader en kinderen” is in het voorjaar van 1969 onthuld op het Dorpsplein in Vleuten, voor het gemeentehuis.
Op de foto die L.H. Hofland in mei 1969 heeft gemaakt, tijdens of kort na de onthulling, is te zien dat de beeldengroep op een vierkante, gemetselde sokkel is geplaatst. De kleine plavuizen zijn voor een deel bedekt met wat op een grindlaag lijkt. De vader en zijn zoontje kijken richting het muziekpodium, verderop op het plein. Het dochtertje kijkt richting fonteinen en wil daarnaartoe.
Op de foto die J.G. Menningh tussen 1 januari 1970 en 1 januari 1975 heeft gemaakt, is te zien dat de sokkel is bedekt met grote grindplavuizen en op de hoeken zwarte plavuizen.
Het muziekpodium en de fonteinen zijn er niet meer. Op zeker moment is de beeldengroep verplaatst naar de rand van het Dorpsplein. De sokkel ging schuil achter beplanting. De beeldengroep werd gedraaid; de vader en zijn zoontje keken richting de Dorpsstraat, het dochtertje keek richting het vroegere gemeentehuis, dat sinds de toevoeging van de gemeente Vleuten-De Meern aan de gemeente Utrecht een wijkservicecentrum van de gemeente Utrecht is.
Na voltooiing in 2021 van de bouw van het Gezondheidscentrum Vleuten Dorp is “Vader en kinderen” herplaatst in een nieuw aangelegde groenstrook op het Dorpsplein. De beeldengroep staat niet meer op een sokkel maar op een vierkant veld van klinkers.

The sculpture group "Father and children" was unveiled in the spring of 1969 on the Dorpsplein in Vleuten, in front of the town hall.
The photograph that L.H. Hofland took in May 1969, during or shortly after the unveiling, shows that the sculpture group is placed on a square, brick plinth. The small tiles are partly covered with what looks like a layer of gravel. The father and his little son are looking in the direction of the music stage further on in the square. The little daughter is looking towards the fountains and wants to go there.
On the photo that J.G. Menningh took between 1 January 1970 and 1 January 1975, we can see that the plinth is covered with large gravel tiles and, at the corners, black tiles.
The music podium and the fountains are no longer there. At some point, the sculpture group was moved to the edge of the Village Square. The plinth was hidden behind planting. The sculpture group was turned; the father and his son looked towards the Dorpsstraat, the little daughter looked towards the former town hall, which since the addition of Vleuten-De Meern to the municipality of Utrecht is a district service centre of the municipality.
After the completion of the construction of the health centre Vleuten Dorp in 2021, "Father and children" has been reinstated in a newly laid out green area on the Dorpsplein. The sculpture group no longer stands on a plinth but on a square field of bricks.
