Historical marker and bell mark the location of the Woolen Mill Manufacturing Company building. Originally the building was used as a brandy distillery. In 1868, the building was sold to the New Braunfels Woolen Mill Manufacturing Company. The factory utilized the Comal River water for steam power installing a boiler, chimney and warning bell. Although all that remains of the building is the old bell, rock foundation and part of the chimney, it serves as a reminder of business ingenuity utilizing the Comal River. (excerpt from Historical Marker).
There are markings on the bell, but I can't find anything with those names. There is also a date which looks like Nov. 13, 1862.
The bell has a clanger and a wheel but there isn't a rope on the wheel to facilitate ringing. The bell is displayed on a rock pedestal.
