[FR] Puis Vauban décide de démolir l'ancienne église pour construire Notre Dame des Anges entre 1684 et 1691. Mais entre temps, Vauban préfère le port plus profond de Port Vendres. Le phare n'a plus son utilité, il est alors transformé en clocher. Ce n'est que 100 ans plus tard que la municipalité le fit couvrir par un dôme.
[EN] The medieval light was taken out of service when the towns of Port d’Aval and Port d’Amont combined into Collioure and a new fort was built. It also now doubles as a clock tower.
