The single-storey former courthouse built in 1852 is constructed on sandstone footings of brick with the original roof of shingles, now corrugated iron. The building was erected as a police office but was converted to a courthouse later in 1852 and in the same year housed the first sitting of the Supreme Court of Victoria on the goldfields.
