This flora and fauna information signs located on the wooden overlook into the waters of Jones Lake, and the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge near Austwell Texas.

The waymarked sign reads as follows:

"WATER FOR WILDLIFE

Jones Lake, with its near shore and submerged vegetation, attracts all sorts of wildlife and what years. In dry years, while I struggle to find enough food and drinking water.

Cycles of Change

At times, Jones Lake is a freshwater oasis with water lapping at the observation deck. At other times, the lake may be in a period of extended drought. Rainfall is the only source of water for Jones Lake and other inland lakes and wetlands. Plentiful rainwater provides wildlife with drinking water, hunting and feeding opportunities and reproduction sites. Cycles of wet and dry periods are A natural part of the South Texas climate. But how my climate change, including prolonged drought or rising sea levels, affect places like Jones Lake?
