vos sancti patroni.
factorem omnium deprecemini
Vt a peste saeVa
faMe aC IngentI
InCenDIo
in diebus nostris simus liberi

On the Hauptplatz (main square) of Baden there is an impressive, listed Holy Trinity Column, erected in 1714 in thanksgiving for the end of the plague. The plague had broken out in Baden on 31.5.1713 and claimed 174 lives (in 1679/80 the plague claimed 1200 lives). On the Trinity Column are several Latin inscriptions (some with chronograms), which refer to the year 1714. One of them says:
electi ac dilecti
vos sancti patroni.
factorem omnium deprecemini
Vt a peste saeVa
faMe aC IngentI

Description
The Trinity Column depicts St. Rosalia, Mary Magdalene and Peter on a high three-sided pedestal in deep, basket-arched niches. Flanking on short pillars next to the niches are gilded relief medallions depicting Moses with the brazen serpent, Lot with the angel, Hagar in the desert, three angels with Abraham, Jacob wrestling with the angel, Noah's Ark, Pentecost, Annunciation, Christ healing a gout-ridden man. On the pillars are the statues of St. Sebastian, St. Roch and St. Charles Borromeo.
Elevated in the center of the Trinity Column, a gilded globe appears above three cloud balls and a high cloud column animated with cherub heads and putti with a large mercy seat at the top. On the globe stands the statue of Mary Immaculata."
