A 4' high marble sculpture of Robinson Crusoe depicts the shipwrecked character wearing only a loincloth and a hat. The bearded and barefooted Robinson Crusoe is depicted in the process of climbing a rock outcrop while holding a rifle vertically in his right hand, by the barrel. He is apparently using the rifle as a climbing aid. He has is right foot on the rocks and his left foot on the ground. His right hand is over his head. The sculpture is displayed on a window shelf.

A sign next to the sculpture is inscribed:

The character of Robinson Crusoe was created by novelist Daniel Defoe. In the book Robinson Crusoe is the narrator of the tale of he being shipwrecked of on an island off the coast of Venezuela which he calls the Island of Despair. He survived as a castaway for 28 years before returning home.

The book was was published in 1719 and over the years has been retold in comic books, in the theater, and on film. On film the character was played by Dan O'Herlihy (1954) and Pierce Brosnan (1997).
