The small hotel "De Uylenburg" (the owls castle) is a privately run hotel next to the natures reserve "Bieslandse Bos" in the small village area Delfgauw. The city centre of Delft with its old houses is about 2.5 km away. The hotel has 13 rooms - 10 doubles, 2 triples and a family room, each room is equipped with a shower, access to the WiFi (free for guests) and television. Breakfast is included in the price and is served in the big traditional kitchen and the adjacent living room of the hotel. Besides the rooms there is also the possibility to spend the night in a bigger group (up to seven people) in a special house or use the airstream caravan on the premises - but for these the breakfast is not included.
Parking space is available for a limited amount of cars, there are also two places for charging your electric vehicle. The hotel has its own website on uylenburg.nl, but is also bookable by several bigger agencies. The double rooms cost about 85 Euros per night and payment can be done with one of several credit cards or with cash, but when using the credit card you may be charged an extra fee of 3% by your credit card company.
When we spent the night there we had a rustic, but functional room. The bed was comfortable and shower was very warm (though the shower curtain was a little bit to short and some of the water went out of the basin). The proximity to the nature reserve gave us a particularly quiet night. The breakfast contained fresh baked bread and croissants, cereals, coffee, tea, milk, some juices, yoghurt and several toppings to put on the bread slices.
Our conclusion: This hotel is good for a weekend getaway with an overnight stay, the proximity to the nature reserve is an extra bonus for a quiet night.
