From the National Park Service website:
Not every town in this country can be recognized as the home town of a United States President and a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate; however, Plains, Georgia can. Plains has an interesting history and is proud of its past as well as its present achievements.

From the Explore Georgia website:
"The Jimmy Carter National Historic site represents a rural cultural landscape in the classic sense. Few U.S. presidents have had such close ties with where they were born and raised. The park preserves the key sites and structures associated with Jimmy Carter during his life span. It provides for the interpretation of the presidency of Jimmy Carter and presents the history of a small rural Southern town.
There are several key sites of interest within the park, including the Official State School of Georgia (Plains High School), where Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter attended and graduated. It also includes the Train Depot that served as Jimmy Carter's Presidential Campaign Headquarters and the Boyhood Farm where Jimmy Carter was raised. The Carters still reside in Plains, but the residence is closed to the public."
