The diner itself is a 1937 Worcester Lunch Car Diner #737. Arthur Dufresne took over the operation of the diner in 1973, after his restaurant burned to the ground. The creation of the Boott Mill Sandwich came about by a customer telling Arthur he was especially hungry. Dufresne obliged. He stuffed home fries, eggs, cheese and meat — ham, bacon or sausage — between a sliced bulkie roll. The man left stuffed. The sandwich was born and became very popular. Arthur Dufresne hung up his apron in 2001 at age 75. He sold his diner to Paul Delisle, who continues to run the restaurant and serve Boott Mill sandwiches.
