Het beeld stelt een schaapscheerder voor. De toenmalige herder Gerrit Kramer stond model voor het beeld. Van Rosmalen maakte een uitgebreide studie van de werkwijze van het schaapscheren bij de schaapskooi op de Ginkelse heide.
De schaapscheerder is in actie afgebeeld. Hij zit geknield en houdt het schaap geklemd. Geconcentreerd met in zijn rechterhand de gietijzeren knipschaar voert hij dit oude ambacht uit. De kleding is eenvoudig: klompen, broek, boerenkiel en pet.
Ede heeft twee schaapskuddes. Jaarlijks worden de kuddes in de maand juni nog steeds handmatig geschoren. Het beeld is een eerbetoon aan de schaapsscheerders van vroeger en nu.
Klaas van Rosmalen studeerde aan de Amsterdamse Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunst. Jarenlang werkte hij als restaurateur voor Monumentenzorg in Noord-Brabant.

The image represents a sheep shearer. The then shepherd Gerrit Kramer was the model for the statue. Van Rosmalen made an extensive study of the method of sheep shearing at the sheepfold on the Ginkel Heath.
The sheep shearer is depicted in action. He is kneeling and clutching the sheep. Concentrated with the cast iron cutting scissors in his right hand, he performs this old craft. The clothing is simple: clogs, trousers, a peasant smock and cap.
Ede has two flocks of sheep. Every year the herds are still sheared manually in the month of June. The statue is a tribute to the sheep shearers of the past and present.
Klaas van Rosmalen studied at the Amsterdam National Academy of Fine Arts. For many years he worked as a restorer for Monument Conservation in North Brabant.
