Tucked in at the end of B Street,
Phillips Park in Newark, Delaware, sports a pair of basketball courts along with three tennis courts, a skate spot, playground equipment, picnic tables, shelter, and access to the 1.8 mile
John F. Hall trail. The recreation area is in a neighborhood about 0.5 miles southwest of the University of Delaware campus.
These side-by-side courts are immediately west of the city's Field Operations Warehouse and Maintenance Complex and align to a roughly northwest to southeast axis. The blacktop surface is unpainted save for white boundary lines. Framed rectangle acrylic backboards hang from medium weight galvanized poles. The glass is crystal clear and includes white borders and shooter squares behind standard orange rims with white nylon nets. Two team benches of weathered wood plank tops and cast iron legs offer seating on the northeast sideline. A first time find for me, players are allowed to operate after dark illumination; a sign stenciled on a utility box to the northeast instructs:
PUSH BUTTON TO
ACTIVATE LIGHTS
FOR USE AT DUSK.
LIGHTS AUTO-
MATICALLY SWITCH
OFF AT 10 PM.

Look for the friendly tarantula silhouette there, too.
Bonus: Kilroy sighting on the day of my visit.
