Der Rheinturm ist ein Fernsehturm in Düsseldorf. Mit 240,50 Metern ist er das höchste Bauwerk der Stadt und der zehnthöchste Fernsehturm in Deutschland. Der von 1978 bis 1982 erbaute Rheinturm dient sowohl als Träger von Antennen für Richtfunk, DVB-T-Fernsehen und UKW-Funkdienste als auch als Aussichtsturm. Der direkt am Rhein stehende Turm trägt als Besonderheit an seiner der Altstadt zugewandten Seite eine sogenannte Lichtskulptur, die als größte digitale Uhr der Welt gilt. Der Rheinturm ist für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich, prägt das Stadtbild von Düsseldorf und ist eines seiner Wahrzeichen. Jährlich besuchen etwa 300.000 Menschen den Rheinturm.
Vom Fernmeldedienst der Deutschen Bundespost erhielt der Turm die Bezeichnung Funkübertragungsstelle 10. Kurz nach der Fertigstellung stand der Rheinturm wie ein Solitär am Rande des Hafens. Erst im Laufe der folgenden 15 Jahre wurde die Umgebung mit dem Bau des Landtages 1982–1988, des Stadttors und der Gehry-Bauten (Der Neue Zollhof) 1998 aufgewertet.
Im März 1986 wurde der Fernmeldeturm mit 29 anderen Projekten des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen im Architekturwettbewerb Vorbildliche Bauten in Nordrhein-Westfalen gewürdigt.
Am 16. und 17. Oktober 2004 erhielt der Rheinturm eine neue Spitze. Vorher war der Turm 234,2 Meter hoch und strahlte außer dem Lokalradio NE-WS 89.4 keine weiteren Rundfunksendungen aus.
Betreiber und Eigentümer der Anlage sind gegenwärtig die Deutsche Funkturm (DFMG), ein Tochterunternehmen der Deutschen Telekom mit Sitz in Münster, und die Industrieterrain Düsseldorf-Reisholz (IDR), eine hundertprozentige Tochtergesellschaft der Stadt Düsseldorf.
In der Stadt hat sich für den Turm auch die umgangssprachliche Bezeichnung Lang Wellem in Anlehnung an den Kurfürsten Jan Wellem eingebürgert.
Das Dach des Turmkorbes hat auf 179,4 Meter seinen größten Durchmesser mit 35,5 Meter. Das Dach ist gleichzeitig die erste Antennenplattform. Zwei weitere Antennenplattformen auf 186,9 und 194,4 Meter verjüngen sich auf 30,5 Meter bzw. auf 26,5 Meter im Durchmesser. Damit entsteht der Eindruck eines sich am Turmkorb fortsetzenden, umgedreht stehenden Kelchs, der formensprachlich so mit ihm korrespondiert. Der Turmkorb ist in folgende drei Hauptgeschosse unterteilt:
auf 174,50 Meter Höhe das Drehrestaurant QOMO,
auf 170,00 Meter eine Cafeteria und eine geschlossene Aussichtsplattform mit Panoramascheiben,
auf 166,25 Meter eine offene Aussichtsplattform.
Zwischen der ersten und der zweiten Antennenplattform befinden sich zwei von außen nicht sichtbare Betriebsgeschosse. Über der dritten Antennenplattform befindet sich ein 24 Meter hoher Stahlbetonschaft mit der 22,1 Meter hohen rot-weiß gestrichenen selbsttragenden Antennenspitze aus GFK.

The Rheinturm is a television tower in Düsseldorf. At 240.50 meters, it is the tallest building in the city and the tenth tallest television tower in Germany. The Rhine Tower, built between 1978 and 1982, serves both as a support for antennas for microwave radio, DVB-T television and VHF radio services and as an observation tower. As a special feature, the tower, which stands directly on the Rhine, has a so-called light sculpture on its side facing the old town, which is considered the largest digital clock in the world. The Rheinturm is open to the public, characterizes the cityscape of Düsseldorf and is one of its landmarks. Around 300,000 people visit the Rhine Tower every year.
The tower was given the designation radio transmission point 10 by the telecommunications service of the Deutsche Bundespost. Shortly after completion, the Rhine Tower stood like a solitaire on the edge of the harbour. Only in the course of the following 15 years was the environment upgraded with the construction of the state parliament in 1982-1988, the city gate and the Gehry buildings (Der Neue Zollhof) in 1998.
In March 1986, the telecommunications tower was recognized along with 29 other projects in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the architectural competition for exemplary buildings in North Rhine-Westphalia.
On October 16 and 17, 2004, the Rhine Tower received a new top. Before that, the tower was 234.2 meters high and, apart from the local radio station NE-WS 89.4, did not broadcast any other broadcasts.
The operator and owner of the facility are currently Deutsche Funkturm (DFMG), a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom based in Münster, and Industrieterrain Düsseldorf-Reisholz (IDR), a wholly owned subsidiary of the city of Düsseldorf.
In the city, the colloquial name Lang Wellem has also become common for the tower, based on Elector Jan Wellem.
The roof of the tower basket has its largest diameter of 35.5 meters at 179.4 meters. The roof is also the first antenna platform. Two further antenna platforms at 186.9 and 194.4 meters taper to 30.5 meters and 26.5 meters in diameter. This creates the impression of an inverted chalice continuing on the tower basket, which corresponds to it in terms of form. The tower basket is divided into the following three main floors:
at a height of 174.50 meters the revolving restaurant QOMO,
at 170.00 meters a cafeteria and a closed viewing platform with panoramic windows,
at 166.25 meters an open viewing platform.
Between the first and second antenna platforms there are two operating floors that are not visible from the outside. Above the third antenna platform is a 24 meter high reinforced concrete shaft with the 22.1 meter high self-supporting GRP antenna tip painted red and white.
