The fact of the matter is that you can fish along any shoreline within the park, but this is a good location, next to the boat ramp if you prefer to do your fishing on the open water. If you stay onshore, there are restrooms with running water and plenty of picnic tables with grills. There are 125 spaces for parking as well, with a Catch of the Day board near a nice cleaning station.
While there are signs encouraging catch and release, and depending upon the season, you may see something with more details posted by the cleaning station. Texas Parks and Wildlife also has a list here. When in doubt, check with the rangers when you come into the park. The most common species landed are largemouth, black, and white bass; blue and channel catfish; carp, crappie, and sunfish. Texas Parks and Wildlife had some good reading in their October 2016 issue about where folks like to fish and what they find effective.
No fishing license is required within Texas State Parks, so you can grab your gear and come on in. The entrance fee is $7 for each person 13 years and older: If you fish a lot or have a group, you might consider an annual state parks pass, which pays for itself quickly. When the ranger station is manned, they'll take care of you, but otherwise, you'll square up with the self-pay station there. While annual pass holders have a placard for their rear view mirror, wording on the paperwork at the the self-pay station suggests that it might be a good idea to fill it out anyways. Do be aware that the police and park rangers patrol the area, looking for scofflaws.
