The two small figures represent the brothers Jan and Gerrit Vergeer. They have no clothes on to show the vulnerable time of the war. The brothers were printers in the resistance and printed illegal newspapers in Woerden. They were arrested on a June night in 1944 and taken to camp Sieburg. A few months before the war ended, they died of typhus. The brothers are both holding printing attributes and standing on what appears to be a printed newspaper. The pedestal consists of three colours that are supposed to represent the national flag of the Netherlands.
