EN: This memorial stone stands in a place opposite the church of Reckingen. It commemorates the avalanche disaster of February 24, 1970.

On that day, at 5:05 in the morning, about 1.8 million cubic meters of snow broke loose and fell into the valley. 30 people lost their lives - 11 locals and 19 soldiers who were staying in a former hotel.

The copper plaque on the stone contains the text: "In memory of the victims of the avalanche disaster of February 24, 1970 in Reckingen VS." Next to it are the municipality's coat of arms and the symbol of the army unit affected.
