She was born in Santo Domingo in 1850, daughter of a writer, Nicolás Ureña de Mendoza. Salomé started to publish poetry at the age of 17, initially a sweet poetry which evolved to a tragic dark style later on.
This bust is located in the historical center of Santo Domingo - a quarter classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site - in a quiet corner in front of a building where the first university of the Americas was founded.
