Die Schmiede an seinem neuen Standort im Freilichtmuseum. Gut zu sehen ist das Kreuz mit einem vergoldeten Hufeisen auf der Spitze des Daches als Zeichen des Schmiedehandwerks.
Als letzter Betreiber der Schmiede in Bornich, einem kleinen Dorf südlich von Koblenz, arbeitete hier bis 1950 der Schmiedemeister Wilhelm Kesser als Huf- und Wagenschmied. Sein Enkel Matthias Brodt erinnert sich noch heute, dass er öfter nach dem Kindergarten auf der Schwelle der Schmiede gesessen und seinem Opa bei der Arbeit zugesehen hat. In der Mitte der kleinen Schmiede stand der Amboss, links war die Esse, darüber der von Hand gezogene Blasebalg aus Rindsleder. Das Haus war nur mit einer Petroleumlampe beleuchtet, da es keinen Strom in der Schmiede gab. Besonders hat den Jungen das Feuer beeindruckt, das in der Esse brannte und das der Schmied mit dem Blasebalg kontrolliert auf die benötigte Temperatur bringen konnte.

As the last operator of the forge in Bornich, a small village south of Koblenz, master blacksmith Wilhelm Kesser worked here as a farrier and wagon smith until 1950. His grandson Matthias Brodt still remembers that after kindergarten he often sat on the threshold of the forge and watched his grandfather at work. In the middle of the small forge stood the anvil, to the left was the forge, above it the hand-drawn bellows made of cowhide. The house was only lit by a kerosene lamp as there was no electricity in the forge. The boy was particularly impressed by the fire that burned in the forge and that the blacksmith was able to bring to the required temperature in a controlled manner with bellows.
