«Cáritas began its intervention in Portugal in 1945, under the name of “União de Caridade Portuguesa – Caritas”, to operate throughout the national territory, with Lisbon being its headquarters and the place where its actions would begin.
In January 1966, the Diocesan Commission of Lisbon was created to respond to all that there was to be done in the city. This Commission, born from Cáritas Portuguesa, enjoyed its own autonomy, also having its own resources, in the exercise of its mission.»
