"Encontram-se hoje em dia alguns vestígios da muralha mais antiga de Lisboa que se tem conhecimento, conhecida por Cerca Moura. Este sistema defensivo terá sido construído pelos Mouros aquando a sua ocupação do território, provavelmente entre inícios do século X até 1147, ano em que as forças de D. Afonso Henriques, primeiro rei de Portugal, tomaram a cidade aos Mouros.
A Cerca Moura incluía no seu interior a importante Alcáçova e a Medina Mouriscas, e foi construída num período de florescimento urbano e comercial da cidade, que tinha entrado em declínio com a instabilidade das anteriores ocupações bárbaras, até à conquista do território pelos Muçulmanos em 719. Algumas teorias apontam inclusivamente para uma construção ainda do período de ocupação Romana que terá sido aproveitada pelos Mouros.
Actualmente encontram-se visíveis alguns troços desta vasta muralha e também de algumas torres, que se estenderia a partir da linha meridional do Castelo de São Jorge até perto da actual Igreja de Santo António da Sé, descendo em linha recta até ao Rio Tejo.
Muito da muralha foi adaptada posteriormente em habitações, na posterior cerca fernandina, ruiu ou foi mesmo destruído, restando hoje em dia trechos como este, de grande importância patrimonial.
A “Cerca Velha” que delimitou e defendeu Lisboa na época medieval é recriada num circuito pedonal sinalizado que passa pelo Castelo, Alfama, Csa dos Bicos e Sé. Este cricuito foi inaugurado no dia 26 de setembro de 2014 no âmbito das Jornadas Europeias do Património"

"Today, there are some traces of the oldest known wall of Lisbon, known as Cerca Moura. This defensive system would have been built by the Moors when they occupied the territory, probably between the beginning of the 10th century until 1147, the year in which the forces of D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, took the city from the Moors.
The Cerca Moura included in its interior the important Alcáçova and the Moorish Medina, and was built in a period of urban and commercial flourishing of the city, which had gone into decline with the instability of previous barbarian occupations, until the conquest of the territory by the Muslims in 719. Some theories even point to a construction still from the period of Roman occupation that would have been used by the Moors.
Currently, some sections of this vast wall and also some towers can be seen, which would extend from the southern line of the Castle of São Jorge to close to the current Church of Santo António da Sé, descending in a straight line to the Tagus River.
Much of the wall was later adapted into housing, in the later Fernandina wall, it collapsed or was even destroyed, leaving today stretches like this one, of great patrimonial importance.
The “Cerca Velha” that delimited and defended Lisbon in medieval times is recreated in a signposted pedestrian circuit that passes through Castelo, Alfama, Csa dos Bicos and Sé. This circuit was inaugurated on the 26th of September 2014 as part of the European Heritage Days"
