NL In de buurt van de parkeerplaats die ik altijd in Schoonhoven gebruik vond ik een mooi kerkgebouw. Het is wel duidelijk herkenbaar als een Katholieke kerk, met een beeld van de heilige Bartholomeus in de linkerhoek. Het bleek een Oud-Katholieke kerk te zijn. Nu ben ik niet zo goed bekend met deze stroming, maar volgens pmaupin is de Oud-Katholieke kerk in de late 19e eeuw afgescheiden van de Rooms-Katholieke kerk. Het grootste twistpunt zou de functie van de paus zijn. De Oud-Katholieken gaan er niet vanuit dat de paus de boodschapper van God op aarde is en in het Rooms-Katholieke geloof is dit wel zo.

“De Bartholomeüskerk in de Zuid-Hollandse plaats Schoonhoven is een in 1905 gebouwde eenbeukige zaalkerk, met een toren aan de rechter- of noordzijde. De kerk is in gebruik bij de Oud-Katholieke parochie van de H. Bartholomeüs en gevestigd aan de Wal 30 te Schoonhoven.

De kerk is gebouwd als vervanger van een verouderde schuilkerk aan de Nes ingang aan de lopikerstraat, en op 16 mei 1905 gewijd. De kerk is gebouwd in rationalistische stijl[2], naar een vereenvoudigd ontwerp uit 1903 van architect J.G. Copper en uitgevoerd door aannemer G.H. Kuylenburg. De kerk is gebouwd met rode waalsteen en versierd met hardstenen elementen in bescheiden jugendstilvormen. De kerk heeft een eenbeukige schip van vier traveeën lang. De kerk heeft een koor met een driezijdige koorsluiting aan de westzijde. De hoofdingang is gevestigd aan de oostzijde. Op de top van deze zijde is een robuust stenen kruis geplaatst. Op de noordoosthoek van de kerk staat een zeshoekige traptoren met spits. Aan de zuidoosthoek is op een console in een nis een stenen beeld van Bartolomeüs geplaatst. Links van de kerk is een kosterswoning gevestigd, rechts (naast de toren) een pastorie.”
ENG Near the parking lot that I always use in Schoonhoven, I found a beautiful church building. It is clearly recognizable as a Catholic church, with a statue of Saint Bartholomew in the left corner. It turned out to be an Old Catholic church. Now I am not very familiar with this movement, but according to pmaupin the Old Catholic Church separated from the Roman Catholic Church in the late 19th century. The biggest point of contention would be the function of the Pope. The Old Catholics do not assume that the Pope is the messenger of God on earth and in the Roman Catholic faith this is the case.

“Bartholomeuskerk in Schoonhoven, South Holland, is a single-aisled hall church built in 1905, with a tower on the right or north side. The church is used by the Old Catholic parish of St. Bartholomew and is located at Wal 30 in Schoonhoven.

The church was built as a replacement for an outdated hidden church at the Nes entrance on the Lopikerstraat, and was consecrated on May 16, 1905. The church was built in a rationalist style, after a simplified design from 1903 by architect J.G. Copper and executed by contractor G.H. Kuylenburg. The church is built with red Waalsteen and decorated with hard stone elements in modest Art Nouveau shapes. The church has a single-aisled nave of four bays long. The church has a choir with a three-sided choir closure on the west side. The main entrance is located on the east side. A robust stone cross is placed on top of this side. On the northeast corner of the church is a hexagonal stair tower with a spire. A stone statue of Bartholomew is placed on a console in a niche at the southeast corner. To the left of the church is a sexton's house, to the right (next to the tower) a rectory.”
