Temple Leah Houston (and many members of his family) are interred in this plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
Description:

Temple Leah Houston was the last child of first Texas Governor Sam Houston, and the only one to be born in the Governor's Mansion. After the death of his parents he lived with relatives and continued his education, graduating from Baylor University in Waco with honors in law and philosophy. He "read the law" with an established firm and was admitted to the bar, and was the youngest attorney in Texas when he opened his own law practice.

Houston was known for his flamboyant and unorthodox dress and behavior. Houston spoke French and Spanish fluently, as well as seven Indian languages, and his knowledge of the Bible and of the "classics" was extensive. Regarded as one of the best trial lawyers in the nation, his approach was occasionally unorthodox. Sent into a room to "advise" a man accused of stealing horses, he was later found alone - and the window was open. "I gave him the best advice I could," he said, "and the man took it." Houston is also known for the "Soiled Dove" plea, considered to be one of the finest closing arguments in the history of American law.

Houston participated in the Oklahoma Land Run of 1893 and settled in Woodward, where he served as counsel for the AT&SF railroad. He lived here for the rest of his life; he and many members of his family are interred in this plot.
