Translated from the above noted text:

Yamaska County. Diocese of Nicolet. Served by mission from 1727 to 1751, date of the appointment of the first parish priest. The registers of the parish open in the year 1727. Canonical erection: August 10, 1833. The territory of this parish includes part of the seigneury of La Vallière or Yamaska. For description, The parish municipality of Saint-Michel-d’Yamaska was erected under Act 8 Vict. chap. 40, July 1, 1845. The village of Saint-Michel-d’Yamaska was erected on January 1, 1867 under Act 23 Vict. chap. 81. The village is located on the route of the “Quebec, Montreal and Southern” railway. The “Ottawa Geography Board” says that “Yamaska”, “Ouamaska” and “Hiamaska” are aboriginal words which mean: “where there is grass at the bottom of the water”. This origin of the word Yamaska is similar to that cited by M.P.G. Roy. Bishop Laflèche gives the following etymology: "Iyam", offshore, and "Askaw", there are rushes, which he translates as: "there are rushes offshore". Father Isidore Béland, parish priest, writes to us: “The parish was undoubtedly placed under the patronage of Saint Michel in honor of Michel LeNeuf, Sieur de La Vallière, who became owner of the seigneury of Yamaska or de La Vallière on September 24, 1683.”
