This carved horizontal sundial is mounted in a pool in the butterfly garden outside the Cecil B. Day butterfly center in Callaway Gardens near Pine Mountain Georgia. The circular plate is carved with floral motifs and a butterfly at the top. It bears an appropriate phrase from Psalm 113.
At 11:15 AM, during a short period of sunshine, the dial gave a reading of about 8:15. It appeared to be sitting on concrete blocks in the pool and I suspect it's not oriented accurately.
Callaway Gardens, a beautiful 13,000 acre garden, golf, recreation, conference and resort area is open 9 AM to 5 or 6 PM, year round. There is an admission charge if you are not staying at one of the lodgings operated by Callaway. Maps of the gardens are available at the entrance and at all the facilities.
