In February 2011 three paintings by artist Vicky Mount were installed on an exterior wall at Stoke Market, in South Wolfe Street, opposite the library.

The art focuses on life in the town with images reflecting everyday life - the designs were chosen by library users in a vote.

The three paintings are called Arthur's Morning, A Penalty And A Pint, and Sun Street.

The first depicts a man eating his breakfast as his cat looks on, while across the street a man collects his milk.

The second shows a Stoke City fan looking up, unaware his dog is helping himself to his pint.

The third is based on the town's Sun Street and shows three women having an early morning natter. "Howve yer bin duck?"
The painting reflects the period in the Stoke-on-Trent Potteries before the Clean Air Act in the early 1950's which led to the demise of the coal fired bottle kiln - these smoky kilns which dominated the landscape were replaced by gas and electric kilns.
The picture captures the plethora of kilns with the closely knit terrace houses, cheek by jowl with the pottery works. The picture shows typical terrace houses of the day (many still standing) - two up two down with the front door open directly into the front room - no porch or passage. (visit link)

The project has been supported by Staffordshire Housing Association with grant funding secured by Stoke-on-Trent City Council and support from Fenton's Theartbay and installer QPS from Stoke.
