You'll also see the name "Long Bottom" or "Longbottom" in Wortham, whose original name was "Longbotham," for early pioneer, Robert B. Longbotham. Longbotham was an Englishman who arrived here in 1810, and he fought for the United States during the War of 1812 (although he was captured by the British and forced to serve in their navy, making him a veteran on both sides). He later fought in the Texas Revolution, and settled in this area in 1848. A town bearing his name rose up, and it became "Wortham" in 1874, honoring a merchant who helped to attract the railroad to the area.

The lodge retained the Longbotham name when it was chartered on June 7, 1875. Its members picked out a location that year, and by 1876, they were holding their meetings there. An 1880 storm blew down that original lodge, but by 1881, they had a replacement, which they shared with the Methodist Protestant Church. In 1903, they moved again and constructed another building. The Lodge's website is a bit unclear about this, but it appears that that was this building.

Older Street Views on Google Maps show that the Order of the Eastern Star had a sign on the building, but they appear to have moved on, if not dissolved.
