Three flags fly outside of he Jefferson City hall: The American Flag, the Indiana State Flag, and the Jeffersonville Municipal Flag.
The Jeffersonville Municipal Flag is yellow with the circular City Seal in the center. The seal has a ring around an emblem in the center, reading Est. CITY OF 1802 JEFFERSONVILLE. In the center is a Compass Rose, a nod to the home of noted explorer and Surveyor William Clark (of Lewis & Clark), a suggestion of a paddle steamer and waves, signifying the city's place as a port on the Ohio River, and 3 stars, signifying its connection to Thomas Jefferson, the nation's 3rd President and whose city plan of square grids interspersed with parks was adopted by the city at its founding, and is still visible today.
