This is an old Spanish fort located in Puerto Plata, in the northern coast of Dominican Republic

This fort was built in the second half of the 16th century. Works started in 1564 and by 1577 the fort was concluded. It was involved in the Quasi War, an unoficial armed conflict between France and the USA.
Since 1965 it hosts a museum, It was renovated in 1974 and it opened as we now can see it in 1983. It's an advised visit. Inside there are a few historical exhibits and from the walls the visitor can enjoy excellent views all around.
