Het Pieterpad is tussen 1978 en 1983 bedacht, gelopen en beschreven door Toos Goorhuis-Tjalsma uit Tilburg en Bertje Jens uit Groningen. Twee vriendinnen die vonden dat Nederland wel een serieus lange afstandspad kon gebruiken. Ze waren geïnspireerd door een wandeltocht in het Duitse Zwarte Woud en wilden iets vergelijkbaars in Nederland tot stand brengen.bron (

The Pieterpad was conceived, walked and described between 1978 and 1983 by Toos Goorhuis-Tjalsma from Tilburg and Bertje Jens from Groningen. Two friends who thought that the Netherlands could use a serious long-distance path. They were inspired by a hiking tour in the German Black Forest and wanted to create something similar in the Netherlands.source (
