Cette magnifique église d'un baroque dépouillé, date de 1800. En 1880, fut achevé l'actuel clocher en pierres de taille haut de 36 m. Elle trône sur la place du village avec sa tour-clocher séparée, un détail architectural propre à la Balagne.

This magnificent church of a stripped baroque, dates from 1800. In 1880, the present 36-meter high bell tower was completed. It stands on the village square with its separate bell tower, an architectural detail found on many churches in Balagne.Inside, a statue of the Virgin and Child from the 18th century and a statue of Saint Anthony the hermit from the 16th century, both in polychrome wood, were classified as MH in 1992.

Située au centre du village. Sa construction, due à la mobilisation de toute la population, a débuté en 1800 pour s'achever en 1825. D'inspiration baroque, son décor est moins riche que les autres églises du même style. Le campanile, haut de 36 m et en forme de tour carré ajourée, ne sera érigé qu'en 1878 et, comme pour la plupart des églises baroques corses, il est séparé du bâtiment principal. En Haute-Corse, dans la région de Balagne, à quelques kilomètres de Calvi, se trouve Lumio, petit village du XVe siècle perché. Son centre est essentiellement composé de sentiers piétonniers et de belles maisons imposantes en pierre. Baignée de lumière, cette bourgade harmonieuse, sans fausse note, aux ruelles étroites, séduira les amateurs de vieilles pierres et de villages authentiques ayant conservé leur âme.
L'adjectif sainte est souvent accolé à la région Balagne en raison du grand nombre d'édifices religieux recensés sur ses terres. Lumio n'échappe pas à la règle avec plusieurs églises et chapelles. Classiquement située au centre du village, l'église Santa-Maria a vu le jour grâce à la mobilisation de la population. 25 années ont été nécessaires pour son édification.
