Gubben Rosenbom (Old man Rosenbom) serves as a money collecting box for the poor. If you flip the hat, you can insert coins in the head of the figure. In his left hand Rosenbom holding a sign with the following text:
"I humbly beg you, even if my voice is powerless, come, put a penny in, but first lift up my hat. Blessed are those who take care of the poor."
The life-size wooden sculpture is located in front of the Admirality Church in Karlskrona. Old man Rosenbom is a copy of the original sculpture from 1750 which has been protected inside the Admiralty Church since 1956.
It is unknown who made Gubben Rosenbum, and there are several descriptions of it.
One of the stories tells that Gubben Rosenbom is the sailor Mats Hindriksson Rosenbom, who as an old man walked around and begged. In several places he was served liquor instead of money and therefore got drunk. The famous sculptor Kolbe got annoyed at Rosenbom and asked him to disappear. The next morning, Rosenbom was found lying outside the Admiral Church, frozen to death. Sculptor Kolbe now had such a bad conscience that he produced the figure Rosenbum, which was to raise money for the poor.
