If one has spent any time within Shenandoah National Park, they will see some sign of it's past. Originally inhabited by hundreds of families, they were all displaced following the creation of the National Park in 1926. A lot of the buildings, walls, other structures were removed but the ghost of the pre-park era still haunt the woodland. This is a great book to read to understand the hardships of families that were forced to relocate.
