The photo on the first picture shows the situation/hazard the explosion of the bridge made. After the war many restorations were made.
The text on the plaque reads:

Op 13 september 1944 werd deze brug over de Geul door de Duitsers opgeblazen hetgeen de gebouwen in de directe omgeving zwaar beschadigde. Met name de hotels Croix de Bourgogne en Du Pont (r) en het pand Otten (l) werden onherstelbaar verwoest.

On September 13, 1944, this bridge over the Geul was blown up by the Germans, which severely damaged the buildings in the immediate vicinity. In particular, the hotels Croix de Bourgogne and Du Pont (r) and the property Otten (l) were irreparably destroyed.
