This bench mark was used during the First Primary Levelling, England & Wales. It was included on the Exeter to Southampton line as "No. 48. Bolt in North-west angle of St. Mark's Chapel, Newton Poppleford ; 2.03 ft. above surface. (p141)" at 132.375 feet above Liverpool datum.
This bench mark was used during the Second Geodetic Levelling, England & Wales. It was included as a side level on the Bridford to Beer line as "Old B.M. (bolt) in N.W. angle of Newton Poppleford Church Tower. (p6)" at 131.777 feet above Newlyn datum."
