The Markelo radio mast is the tallest building in Overijssel.

The transmission tower, which was put into use in 1959, is of the same model as the Roermond television tower. The NPO transmitters have a range of 80 km around the mast.
In 2007 the analog TV antennas were removed and the mast was shortened by 25 meters to a height of 148 meters.
In 2020 a data center has been established and the mast is owned by Cellnex (Alticom).
