The Sulby Reservoir Dam is at Tholt y will in the Sulby Valley.

The Sulby Reservoir Dam was completed in 1982 and is operated by Manx Utilities. The reservoir is an impounding reservoir which supplies water to supply water to the nearby town of Ramsey. It replaced two earlier dams, lower down the west, north of the Island it also supplies water to the east coast in the Laxey area. Water can also be pumped to West Baldwin Reservoir to supply Douglas. It is the most recent and largest reservoir on the Isle of Man.

Water from the reservoir is also taken by a pipeline to the Sulby Hydroelectric Electric Power Station which is approximately 1.5 kilometres further downstream.

The dam is 73m in height and is formed from an earth embankment faced with stone on the water side. The reservoir behind the dam has a capacity of 4,832,000 cubic meters.

About the reservoir
Sulby Reservoir is the largest and most recent reservoir on the Island. Completed in 1982, the reservoir was formed by the construction of a rock fill embankment dam across the Sulby River just downstream of where it meets the Druiddale stream.

Water from the reservoir is piped to Sulby Water Treatment Works where it is treated and distributed to the population in the north of the Island. Water from Sulby Reservoir can also be pumped to West Baldwin Reservoir, which supplies water to the Douglas area and the south of the Island via Douglas Water Treatment Works.

The reservoir is used to supply water and to generate hydroelectric power form a hydro turbine located about 1.6 kilometres downstream of the dam. In addition to this; in 2013 an energy recovery system was installed at Sulby Water Treatment Works to generate hydroelectric power from the incoming raw water. The water them passes through the treatment works and on to our customers.
